From mid 2002 BlackBerry’s range of smartphones were synonymous with doing business on the move. A pager, cell phone, internet fax and email all in one piece of equipment made them hugely popular.

Now BlackBerry have a new smartphone out; the BlackBerry Curve 8520, otherwise known as the “Gemini”.

What makes it special?

Well, like all BlackBerry products the Curve 8520, or “Gemini”, boasts many different features in a sleek, attractive phone.

One of it’s more impressive features is its 2 mega pixel camera, which may not sound overly spectacular, but can produce pictures that when uploaded to your computer, either via bluetooth or cable, will remain clear and of a much higher quality than one expects when using a cell phone camera. The Gemini also allows you to film with it’s inbuilt video camera and send the clips straight to your friends.

It is also a media player with advanced media keys that allow you to easily pause, play, rewind, fast forward and skip tracks, as well as adjust the volume. The media player also has video capabilities which is a huge plus, especially when travelling on long flights – just be sure to turn it to flight mode before take off.

What about the design itself?

It is a slim and attractive model, but with an impressively large screen. It weighs 100 odd grams, and with its curvaceous design is very comfortable both to hold and use, which is good because once you pick one up it can be quite challenging to put it down again.

The track pad feature gives a user the feel reminiscent of using a laptop, easily being able to scroll through menus and navigate the system with, quite literally, just the tip of a finger.

How easy is it to email?

A lot of phones are notorious for the fiddly use of small keys when it comes to writing an email or a text message, but the Gemini is the exception to that. It boasts a full QWERTY keyboard with keys small enough that the phone can retain its impressive sive while large enough that you wont have a problem hitting more than one key at once.

The price is as low as $129.99 from T Mobile making it one of the most affordable smartphones available in America, still boasting many of the same features as phones running into the higher $500s.
